How It Started

During the pandemic, while the world was figuring out what to do with itself, a Phoenix artist was shipping tie-dye work to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles – getting constant commission requests with barely 200 Instagram followers. Pure word of mouth. Every order went out with a handwritten thank-you note, each one signed with a little skull with a candle burning on top of its head. Nobody called it anything. It was just a signature.

When the tie-dye stopped feeding something creatively, it stopped. That’s always been the rule here: when the work stops meaning something, you move on.

Transformation

Then came an iPad and an Apple Pencil. What started as teaching yourself to draw digitally slowly turned into something else — a reconnection with the sketchbook kid who used to draw everywhere, all the time, always. That kid hadn’t gone anywhere. He’d just been waiting.

The connection was obvious once it hit: I’m a streetwear collector. I know what a real piece feels like. Why am I not making my own?

After a lot of noodling, research, and help from a more experienced friend on Procreate, the first Dyeing Desert shirt came together – 20 pieces, hand-drawn, screen printed. Dropped in 2023. Gone immediately.

Dyeing Desert – The Brand

The skull with the candle on its head finally had a name. The brand was called Dyeing Desert — a name that arrived only in the act of making that first shirt, the way the right names always do.

More drops followed. Each one hand-drawn. Each one better than the last. Each one gone once it’s gone – no restocks of the same colorway, ever. If something comes back, it comes back transformed.

By July 2025, the hobby mindset got left behind for good. This is a brand now. Built in Phoenix.

Raised in the desert. Going everywhere.
